Philosophy

Our open-source philosophy

Algeria deserves software it can own.

Wocart has been open source since its first line of code. The engine behind every Wocart store (orders, delivery companies, products, the dashboard, the storefront) is public. Anyone can read it, run it, change it and learn from it.

This isn’t just a business decision. It’s a core belief.

Algeria has almost no open-source commerce software of its own. Merchants here end up choosing between local tools that charge every month and lock their data inside, and foreign platforms built for card payments, foreign currencies and markets that aren’t ours. Either way, the merchant rents their own store and pays again every month, whether they sold a lot that month or nothing.

We chose a different path: build the engine in Algeria, for cash on delivery and Algerian couriers, and give it away.

What this means

Our commitments to Algerian merchants and developers

  • Open source from day one

The platform is public under the Apache 2.0 license. You can view the code, run it on your own Cloudflare account, change it and build on it.

  • Store features stay in the open-source version

Orders, shipments, carriers, products, offers, reviews, languages and themes: everything a store needs to sell is in the code everyone gets. We don’t hold back a “premium edition” of the store itself.

  • Your store, your data

A self-hosted store runs in your own account, with your own database. Nobody can lock you out of it or hold your orders hostage.

  • Built for here

Cash on delivery, the wilayas and communes, Yalidine, ZR Express, NOEST and more, Arabic first. This isn’t a foreign product translated into Algeria.

  • Apache 2.0. The name is ours.

You’re free to use, change and build on the code. But Wocart is a registered trademark, and the Apache 2.0 license gives no right to use it (section 6 of the license). You can’t call your product Wocart, use our name or logo, or present yourself as Wocart or as speaking for it.

How we sustain development

Because we still need to pay the bills

Free software doesn’t mean free development. We have no investors and no donations. We fund Wocart one way: Wocart Cloud.

Wocart Cloud

$49 or 12,500 DA per store per year

For merchants and agencies who’d rather not deploy and update servers themselves. We set up the store in your Cloudflare account, keep it updated, and add Studio, our visual editor for themes and landing pages. One payment a year, not a monthly bill, by card, CCP or BaridiMob.

Start on Wocart Cloud

Self-hosted

0 DA and always will be

If you’d rather run it yourself, the whole engine is yours. Cloud makes things easier. It doesn’t unlock the store’s features.

This model lets us answer to Algerian merchants, not to growth targets.
